How to calculate pixel size from millimeters
In our product list we use millimeter sizes instead of pixels. We chose this approach so you can decide for yourself how large the image will be. We’ll always convert it back to the size we need for printing and don’t really mind what format we receive from you. Since our printers run at 300 DPI by default, we recommend using this setting.
Most designers can work with millimeter sizes, but sometimes partners request dimensions in pixels. The product page in the product catalog shows the print size in pixels at 300 DPI next to the millimeters. For other resolutions, it’s easy to calculate if you know the math.
How to calculate?
To calculate the number of pixels, you need two things:
- A width and height in millimeters
- The resolution in DPI (dots per inch)
The calculation is as follows:
(Width in millimeters / 25.4) * DPI
An inch is 25.4 millimeters. Fill in 300 for our default resolution, or the DPI you need instead. Round the result to the nearest whole pixel.
Example calculation at 300 DPI
Width: 60 millimeters
(60 / 25.4) * 300 = 709 pixels
Height: 152 millimeters
(152 / 25.4) * 300 = 1795 pixels
